Road Closure and Detour: PennDOT has announced that the Route 74 bridge over the Conewago Creek in York County will close in the new year and remain closed for eight months. A short detour will be in place from Harmony Grove Road and route traffic through Wellsville.

This will impact visitors traveling from the south/Dover area to the park.

The Route 74 (Carlisle Road) bridge between Alpine Road and Conewago Road in Dover and Warrington townships will close on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026.
The bridge will be replaced. The new bridge is expected to open on Sept. 9, 2026.

The detour will use Harmony Grove Road (Route 4014), Wellsville Road (Route 4012) and Route 74 (Carlisle Road).
Campground Rehabilitation Project Update: Beginning in 2027, the campground at Gifford Pinchot State Park is undergoing a major shower house renovation project. During this time, portions of the campground will be temporarily closed while other areas remain open as work is completed in phases. DCNR is replacing outdated shower and restroom facilities with new, modern, and accessible amenities. The sites which are impacted during this phased project are blocked for reservations on our system. If you see a site is open when you would like to visit, it is not currently impacted by the shower house project.
